I'm dropping a lot of points on my man, what's the best advice to deal with this? the game just reacts quite slow and the player sometimes goes the wrong way when my man I'm guarding suddenly makes a move and I try to follow him.

you have to first know who you're matching up with. if he's a pass first, you don't have to man up on him too close. If he's a 3pt specialist, you want to watch out for picks and make sure you follow him when he's moving without the ball. If he's a scorer, then you want to give him a little bit of space but watch out for backdoor passes and anticipate his moves.

i know that it's easier said than done, but when i'm guarding, i give him some space so i can anticipate his cuts but not too much so he can't drop a 3. aggressive players will try to make a move to the basket, but that's when you lead him to where you can get help. so if you're guarding him and you know the help's on the right side, i'd intentionally guard him to my left, so he can drive to the right and my help will be there. pass-first or 3pt specialists usually pass away and will try to set a pick for someone, but use your R stick to prevent him from getting any open looks.

He might have cheated, but I got my old guard's speed to about 95 (93-95 don't remember) without spending a single point on it by the time the training camp was over.

I have the draft combine, so what I did to get the speed was to do the dribbling drill. I'm not too sure about this, but I think more R2 you use on the dribbling course, higher your chance of getting speed as your bonus attribute. It sure didn't work well on my player mode, but I got a ton of speed attribute on draft combine doing the dribbling course over and over (when dribbling course is much easier on draft combine imo). but yeah my athletic guard already had 85 speed, so it was not too hard completing the drills.

I think I got really lucky with the dude, because my new guard only has 89 speed right now. but I do prefer a decent speed over a 99 speed. It seems harder for me to guard my opponent when I have too much speed, 'cause I keep sliding left and right. And my teammates could not pass to save their lives so fast break didn't help much with 99speed either.

I forgot to mention that if you know where your help is coming from, lead your opponent to where you'll be getting the help from, then call for a double team. A good example is guarding someone like Arenas, who you know he's going to drive to the paint, probably either from a pick or just sheer speed. Double team definitely helps a lot when defending against a speedy scorer.

I just really started getting into the my player mode on 2k10 & I'm loving it, but I'd be loving it a whole lot more if I knew what attributes to focus on first; I be trying to distribute the skill points to various attributes that he has. Right now, his overall is 40. I just started with him and made his playing style set for athletic. Everybody tells me that's the best one to choose. Any suggestions...?

my guy is a point gaurd and hes only a 61 but i got his three up to 85 his shot medium and close is 90 his layup is 90, dunk 85. hes only 6'3 but with my vertical 85 he dunks almost all the time and if he doesn't its a layup that almost always goes in.

to stay out of the d league all you have to do is get an A+ everygame in training camp. if you start to do bad just quit and try again im with the lakers and made their team first try.

Ok first of all you can get 99s easily without cheating... here is my player

Orlando Magic (27-0) Starting PG (Season 1)

99 Speed (I had 99 speed before I played an NBA game, just only do speed until the NBA)
99 Quickness
99 Layup
99 Consistency (a must)
99 Vertical
76 Dunk (working on it)

My Averages:

37.6 PPG
7.5 RPG
8.1 APG

9 double-doubles
3 triple-doubles

12 Minute Quarters

Not gunna lie I play 5 min quarters on All-Star (although i dont think difficulty affects my player) and I avg. 40.2 ppg. Only 4.1 assists though and I am a PG because they can call plays AKA Iso every time down the floor if you want to score, and pick and roll if you need an assist so I think PG is the best position to choose.

Well, the best thing you can do is to increase your on ball defense attribute.. It may also help if you increase defensive awareness.. An advantage when you increase awareness is that your ovr will increase a hell lot..;)

Wow, dude. going through this thread again and I'm just blown away that you played for 2 MONTHS and only got your dude up to 65 overall. I mean, by partway through the second season it's hard NOT to hit 99 unless you're setting yourself up to be tiny at your position...

I'm playing nba 2k11 and my players speed is all I can put and its 85. I'm a 6'11 PF and i just realized I can't even call plays anymore like in 2k10. I used to just call iso and just take my guy to the hoop and dunk it but I can't do that anymore so now I kinda regret getting a PF. I'm thinking of getting a PG now thats what I was going to do in the first place. ugh this game is addicting though and I don't want to go through training camp and all that again

to get ur speed to a 99 is simple...no cheating involved...all u gotta do is ONLY do the DRIBBLE COURSE DRILL...and when u complete it,if u get a +1 or +2 speed bouns save it....if not quit, reload and do the drill again...u will not get + speed everytime though...but it is very simple once u master the moves...

MANUTE
10-26-2010, 04:31 PM
also a good trick is to know is....when u gotta key matchup game, its 2x the points u recieve, so, turn up the minutes and get as many milestones as u can...i scored 40 points in a game and got the 30 point and 40 point milestone ,plus the 2x at the end .....in 1 game i got 8500 skill points!!!!!

MANUTE
10-26-2010, 04:33 PM
once ur speed is a 99, take some skill points off and use them to upgrade other stuff...then just make sure u get the =1 or =2 speed on the next drill....thats the move right there!!!! u will have thousands of extra skill points.....hope this helped someone......MANUTE

MANUTE

getting ur speed up witout cheating is simple....use all ur drills on dribble course and dont save it unless u get a + speed...it takes more than 1 time , but ur player will be the fastest in the league to start off!!!which isnt unrealistic

Ignarus

Don't underestimate the importance of quickness either - being quick makes it a lot easier to help of a guy on the perimeter to protect the paint and still block your man's shot if it gets kicked out. speed kills on the open court, but changing directions easily makes you a lot better on D.

how can i make my player like a lebron james or a high flyer... so that everytime I go to the hole i dunk it or layup and get the and 1
Its easy. My player is now at mid-season, playing 5mins per quarter.
77 overall
dunking,layup,3pt,midrange,shoot in traffic, shoot off dribble, consistency, vertical, they are all 99.
i score 53.7 points per game (64 season high)

wonder how i did it? simple.

just before the opponent attempts to shoot (predict when his going for the shot).
Then move ur way up court, run fast for the fastbreak.
thats it,.most of my fieldgoals are fastbreaks and its extremely effective.
u get plus at fast break and good shot selection and a dunk., that occupies half the team grade level.

there are disadvantages though, but the advantages are great,.

the jordans help out if you need them to make your player better, i got all 40 pretty quickly

no thats not true at all my player is a 45 overall and his 3 pointer is 99 all u do is make a pg sg or sf and make him a three point specialist put all your skill points on 3pt till u get to 99. and get a release that is easiest for you to use (mine is ray allen). and just put your skill points that you get for makin 3s on dunking ect.

also consistency put that to 99 and u will avrg at least 40 points per game. i was in a key game and came out with 14000 skill points and i just got the game Friday.

cheating is not needed if you have skill. and if you dont believe me send me a message my gt is: da sneaky taco. (dont judge) XBOX 360

Truthfully it's not that hard to do it as a point guard, since you always have the ball.

All you have to worry about is just getting shoot in traffic and layup up and you will score 20 points easily.

Getting assists isn't really that hard either. Just look for guys cutting to the basket and pass it to them and there's a double double.

Now for the skilled gamers, a great way is to get steals. Just play intense D on them and when they are getting ready to put the ball on the floor, steal it. Also, if you time it just right when they cross over, there's an easy steal. Just get steal up to like 70 so you won't get as much fouls.

Just do that and you'll have a slightly shorter Lebron James.

what's THE most important facet/aspect of basketball/a basketball player?

IMO: Their J. No matter what position you choose for your my player, the first thing to increase is the : midrange, consistency, offensive awareness/defensive awareness.. then whatever else to plays to your liking. Off/Def awareness raises your overall player rating substantially and imo it helps in game play to avoid stepping out of bounds when doing dribble moves close to the baseline/sideline. Anyhow that's just my .02 .. I've already built 2 99 players in no time, on my 2nd pg right now in 2 weeks! it's systematic if you do it right!

get at me if you have any questions, i fkn love this game

For example:

If you have a MILESTONE coming up and you know you can achieve it n satisfy the criteria to receive the skill points.. wait until the next KEY GAME to achieve it that way your milestone gets DOUBLED as well. I know many many of you already knew this and do this but I am just letting the rest of you in on it just in case. enjoy!^-^

set on/off ball screens frequently, roll/slip to basketball call for ball two times but no more while rolling/slipping to basketball or else you'll get excessive pass.. take good shots even if your player is unlikely to make them due to ratings, the most important thing is to try to get the A+ so you can earn 900 points just from that win or lose. hope this helps

The easiest way to get your grade up is to always try to get the rebound. You will get your grade up by alot. Also only take the shots your player is good at. For example if your player has a wide open 3-point shot but your not good at 3-pointers don't shoot it unless you want to get the "bad shot selection" penalty. The most important thing to keep your grade though is to never cause a turnover or you will regret it.

The best tip I can give anyone is to slow your game down. Don't force anything; passes, shots, steals, rebounds, etc. All you will do is break your own momentum and increase the CPU's. If you take your time, evaluate who is on the floor ( their starting center is out and yours is still in) call some plays for him and get the ball inside. Another is to get yourself HOT by taking the right shots. Jacking up three after three when you are down 10 is not going to do much. Better off working the ball around, finding open guys and setting teammates up. As you do this, you will open things up for yourself. It's really amazing how realistic the game is. Oh yeah - pick the right times to steal.

I stay back after we make baskets and guard the guy closest to the inbounder. Follow him around and time it right and you can pick one off and score quickly. Another way is to time their passes. Give the guy you are defending a little space and watch what's going on behind you. YOU may be able to anticipate a pass his way or a pass he is making (down to the low post for instance.) Time it right. I racked up 11 steals and broke a team record.
